Personal Branding Photography in Norfolk | Ashley Kay Beauty

What are the words that come to mind when you hear ‘personal branding’ - reputation, image, differentiation, authenticity?

How about simply, ‘people I want to be friends with’?

Well, Ashley is one such person. I’ve known her for a number of years through my work as a Norfolk wedding photographer. She’s an amazing makeup-artist and an absolute riot to hang out with! This was our second branding session and she’d also booked me, earlier in the year, for some family photos too (yes, I do that as well - over here!)

So, I jumped at the chance when she asked me to take some more personal brand photos for her socials!

After her initial consultation, where we discussed what she needed, we booked a portrait session to take place around Norwich to get her some fun portraits that she can use to introduce and reintroduce herself to her audience. These new photos will help to set her apart in her business, as well as put a face to the name behind her brand.

The aim of this shoot wasn’t anything flashy or over-styled. It was simply about creating images that felt like her.

Keeping things relaxed

Even if you’re comfortable around a camera, having your photo taken for your business can feel a bit different. There’s often a temptation to try to look a certain way, or to feel like you need to perform.

So we kept things simple.

Natural light, a relaxed pace, minimal direction — and plenty of space for Ashley to just be herself. Rather than forcing poses, we let things unfold and worked with what was already there.

That approach tends to lead to photographs that feel more natural, and more useful long-term.

For her personal branding portrait session we played with lines, colors, angles, and most importantly, showing off her personality. She has bags of that! And of course that hat - love!

Why this kind of photography matters

When people are choosing someone for hair and makeup, they’re not just looking at the work, they’re also deciding whether they feel comfortable with the person behind it.

Good branding photos help with that. They give a sense of who someone is, how they might make you feel, and whether they’re the right fit.

For Ashley, that meant images that felt warm, approachable and professional, without feeling overly posed or polished.

The finished images

The final set reflects Ashley as her clients know her: relaxed, friendly and confident in a quiet way.

As Ashley said afterwards:

“I’m over the moon! Rob’s energy and genuine love of what he does is infectious and I feel like you can really see it in the photos!”

These are the kinds of images that work well across a website and social media, not because they shout the loudest, but because they feel honest and consistent.

If you’re thinking about branding photos for your own business, they don’t need to be perfect — they just need to feel like you.

The goal isn’t to look like everyone else in your industry, but to show up in a way that feels comfortable and true.

That’s what people connect with most.
